AK Khandker gets bail in defamation case

Former Planning Minister AK Khandker has been granted six months anticipatory bail in a libel case filed at Brahmanbaria. High Court Justices Md Nizamul Huq and Farid Ahmed Shibli granted the plea filed by AK Khandker who was present in court on Monday, his lawyer Subrata Choudhury said. AK Khandker, who served as Deputy Chief of Staff of Bangladesh Armed Forces during the country’s independence struggles, claimed some members of ‘Mujib Bahini’ were involved in looting in his book – ‘1971: Bhetore Bahire’. Mujib Bahini member and former joint secretary of Social Welfare Ministry MA Ishak Bhuiyan sued Khandker for defamation at Brahmanbaria’s Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court on September 10, 2014. Judge Monira Sultana has ordered the defendant to be present in court on June 25, according to bdnews24.com.
