Akbar Ali for reducing govt term

Saturday, 29 March 2014

Stressing the importance of amending the constitution to bring a change in the country’s political culture, former caretaker government adviser Dr Akabar Ali Khan on Saturday said government’s term should be reduced to 3-4 years from the existing 5-year one. “The government’s term should be three to four years instead of five years, and the constitution needs to be amended in the current perspective of the country’s politics,” he told a discussion. Movement for People’s Law and Constitution organised the discussion, ‘Bangladesh Constitution Review’, at Dhaka University’s RC Majumder auditorium. Akbar Ali emphasised forging a consensus for changing constitution as there is no everlasting constitution in the world. “It can be changed considering the country’s present situation,” he said, according to a news agency.
