Akhteruzzaman blames govt for Nachole incident

Saturday, 7 July 2007

Former lawmaker Maj (retd) Akhteruzzaman has blamed the government for the "unwanted situation" in Nachole and demanded withdrawal of the case filed by police against some 5,000 farmers, reports UNB.
In a written statement Friday, the former lawmaker also urged the local administration not to harass any farmers under the case filed against them.
Police filed the case against some 5,000 farmers accusing them of ransacking and setting fire to the local UNO office Wednesday, demanding fertilizer supply.
Akhteruzzaman recommended immediate appointment of fertilizer dealer in each union and checking the smuggling of the agri-input.
He also suggested free and uncontrolled transportation of fertilizer across the country, giving subsidy for its production and import and amendment to the existing laws with harsher provisions against fertilizer smuggling.
