Akiz Jute Mill resumes operation tomorrow

JESSORE, Apr 2: After 12 days' of closure privatised Akiz Jute Mills Ltd in Nawapara industrial area in Jessore is going be reopened Saturday next.
The management of the world's largest export-oriented jute industry called on the mayor of Nawapara Municipality and chairman of Abhoynagar Upazila Parishad in presence of upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) and officer-in-charge (OC) and councillors and vice-chairmen Tuesday evening. Both the parties reached a decision to run the industry.
The management, at first ignored the request of the public representatives for reopening the mills as they did not accept the five-point charter of demands raised by the management.
The public representatives assured the management to meet their demands, AJ Rashed, manager, human resources and administration said.
The meeting was attended by Enamul Haq Babul, mayor, Nawapara Municipality, Abdul Maleq, chairman, Abhoynagar Upazila, Shah Newaz Hossain, upazila nirbahi officer, Sheikh Abdul Hakim, general manager, Akiz Jute Mills Ltd, Abu Bakr Siddique, officer-in-charge, Abhaynagar police station and other concerned persons.
The workers Wednesday continued agitation programme in front of the mills for withdrawal of lock out order.
The management of the mills met the deputy commissioner (DC) and superintendent of police (SP), Jessore on March 30 and requested them to ensure security of the mills immediately to run the industry.
The officials of the jute mills on the same day at a press conference claimed that conspirators at home and abroad were seriously active to ruin the world's largest export-oriented jute mill.
The press conference was held at Jessore Press Club where Sheikh Abdul Hakim, general manager, MJ Rashed, manager, Mazharul Islam, representative of the managing director and over 200 officials attended.
