JESSORE Apr 2: The workers of Akij Jute Mills Ltd at Nawapara industrial area in the district continued their agitation programme Tuesday in front of the mills demanding reopening of the mills.
Meanwhile, a meeting between the management of Akij Jute Mills Ltd and the mayor of Nawapara Municipality, chairman of Abhaybagar Upazila Parishad in presence of UNO, OC, councillors and vice chairmen of the upazila was held Tuesday evening.
But the parties failed to reach any agreement in this regard. The management ignored the request of the public representatives for reopening the world's largest export-oriented jute industry.
The authorities of the mills had declared it closed on March 23 on security grounds. After the declaration of the closure the workers staged demonstration in protest of the decision. On March 29, the workers of the mills observed a token hunger strike to press home their demands.
