AKM Yusuf dies at BSMMU

Detained war crimes accused Maulana AKM Yusuf died at the prison cell of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University on Sunday morning. He was 87. Maulana AKM Yusuf, also a central leader of Jamaat-e-Islami, was rushed to the BSMMU (formerly PG Hospital) in Shahbagh from Dhaka central jail's Kashimpur Jail-1 in Gazipur at about 11:15 am today after he became ill due to old age complexities. He breathed his last at the BSMMU's prison cell around 11:30 am following admission. Maulana AKM Yusuf's lawyer Tazul Islam said he was suffering from old age complications. The Jamaat leader was facing 13 charges in cases filed for crimes against humanity committed during Bangladesh independence struggle in 1971. Arrested on May 12, 2013, Maulana Yusuf was indicted by the International Crimes Tribunal-2 for wartime offences on Aug 1 same year., according to private TV channels.
