Aktel-Dhaka Travel Mart-2008 begins in city

Aktel-Dhaka Travel Mart-2008 began in the city yesterday. Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Syed Mohammad Zobaer inaugurated the three-day international tourism fair at a city hotel.
"Bangladesh has a tremendous prospect in attracting tourists as new breeds of tourism professionals are emerging in the private sector, packaging products professionally and attracting tourists in increasing numbers," said Syed Mohammad Zobaer.
"Different countries have become increasingly aware of the possibilities opened by tourism for social and economic development and for job creation. Bangladesh government is no exception," said Syed Mohammad Zobaer, while inaugurating the exhibition.
"The government, aware of the fact that tourism is an important driver of growth and prosperity as well as for poverty alleviation, sees its role as a facilitator of tourism infrastructure and as a regulator, helping private sector contribute to the economy by creating jobs and providing services to this sector," he said.
The Bangladesh Monitor, a travel and tourism publication in the country, is hosting the fifth edition of the international tourism fair.
Leading cell phone operator Aktel is playing host as the title sponsor of the event. Biman Bangladesh Airlines Ltd, GMG Airlines, Eastern Bank Ltd, Association of Travel Agents of Bangladesh (ATAB) and Tour Operators' Association of Bangladesh (TOAB) are acting as premium partners.
A total of forty-four organisations from twelve countries including host Bangladesh are participating in the fair. They include national tourism organisations (NTOs), airlines, tour operators, hotels, resorts, travel trade bodies, and financial and educational institutions.
