FE Report
TM International (Bangladesh) Limited (Aktel) has seen a 40 per cent increase in active Aktel GPRS users, rising to 350,000 at end July 2007.
This impressive growth stems from the launch of GPRS configuration through the 'Over the Air' (OTA) platform, launched last month for all AKTEL customers, the company stated in the city Thursday.
The GPRS configuration through the OTA platform is another milestone for AKTEL.
With the OTA GPRS configuration, AKTEL customers will be able to get more accurate settings for a greater variety of handsets.
Customers will no longer face the hurdle of accessing the required GPRS settings, which were available only for a limited number of handsets.
The process is also simpler as it can be accessed through various modes such as opener, website and SMS.
TMIB Managing Director Kamshul Kasim said, "In the continuous effort to significantly reduce the digital divide of the country, Aktel maintains to invest largely in the areas of network expansion, customer care, call quality and innovative products. The GPRS OTA platform is another milestone for us."
The mobile phone company has made great strides in network quality in the last two years, with strong network capacity in the switching, transmission, IN and GPRS platforms, Kasim explained.
In the transmission network, optical fibres are being deployed progressively in the busiest routes replacing microwave, he mentioned.
"This reflects the significant investment in network since 2004", he said.
In the latest Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) financial results announced in Kuala Lumpur recently, TMIB was reported to have registered a subscriber base of 6.7 million as at end June 2007, an increase of 72 per cent from 3.9 million for the period ending June 2006.
AKTEL subscribers constitute some 21 per cent of the total TM regional subscriber base of 31.8 million.
