A local Awami League activist was killed at Kaliganj in Natore on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Abu Khan, 52, of Ramananda-Khazura union under Singra upazila of Natore. Sub-Inspector Osman Gani, in charge of Kaliganj police camp, said Abu Khan was occupying a khas water body of around 65 bighas for a long time. He was canvassing vote for AL's rebel candidate Zahidul Islam contesting the recently held upazila (UZ) polls. Another AL activist Rabiul was seeking vote for the AL-supported Chairman candidate Shafiqul Islam Shafiq. An enmity grew between them centring the poll campaign and the defeat of AL candidates in the UZ poll intensified their hostility. After the election result was officially out, Rabiul occupied the water body. A clash ensued between the two groups. Rabiul and his supporters beat Abu leaving him injured. Abu succumbed to his injuries on the way to a local hospital, according to a news agency.
