AL activist chopped to death

A local Awami League (AL) activist was hacked to death by unidentified miscreants at Pacha Magura village in Abhaynagar upazila of Jessore district on Sunday night. The deceased was identified as Chaitanya Mondal, 50, an activist of Prembagh Union unit AL and son of Marindra Mondal of the village. Officer-in-charge Khabir Udding Ahmed of Abhaynagar Police Station said a gang of miscreants swooped on Chaitanya at his drugs shop at the village around 8:30pm and chopped him mercilessly, leaving him dead on the spot. The attackers also torched the medicine shop. Chaitanya might have been killed over previous enmity, the OC added, according to a news agency.
