AL-backed Jebunnessa wins

BARISAL, June 15 (UNB): Awami League (AL) candidate Jebunnessa Afroj unofficially won the Barisal-5 by-election held Sunday.
Jebunnessa, wife of former lawmaker Shawkat Hossain Hiron, secured 183,629 votes while her nearest candidate Saiful Islam of BNF polled 6,138.
The parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of AL MP Shawkat Hossain Hiron.
