AL-backed yellow panel sweeps RUTA poll

RAJSHAHI UNIVERSITY, Mar 11: The Awami League (AL) backed Yellow panel achieved a landslide victory in the election of Rajshahi University Teachers' Association (RUTA) Thursday while BNP-Jama'at backed "White panel" and BNP backed another panel "Sonali panel" could not secure any posts out of 15. In the RUTA election Prof Musfiq Ahmed of Geology and Mining Department and Prof Shamsul Arefin Matin of Social Work Department were elected president and general secretary respectively for one year. Besides, Prof Madan Mohon Dey was elected vice-president, Prof Hasan Ahmed Treasurer and Prof Shahariar Jaman Joint-secretary. The other elected members are - Prof Obaidur Rahman Pramanik, Dr Narayan Roy, Dr Sayeed Ali Reza, Prof Juhurul Islam, Dr M Shahajan, Prof Fazlul Karim, Dr Biswanath Shikder, Prof Abul Kalam Azad, Prof Dr Nazrul Islam and Prof Farukuzzaman. The election was held at Juberi Lounge of the university from 8.00 am to 2.00 pm Thursday.
