AL candidate Farhad wins B'baria 1 by-polls

BRAHMANBARIA, Mar 13 (UNB): Ruling Awami League candidate Bodruddoza M Farhad Hossain was unofficially declared winner of the by-polls for the Brahmanbaria-1 constituency on Tuesday.
As per the results announced, Farhad bagged 81,386 votes while his nearest candidate Rezwan Ahmed of Jatiya Party secured 33,258 votes.
Earlier, the voting started at 8am amid tight security and continued until 4pm without any break at 74 polling stations for a total of 214,009 voters.
Elite force Rapid Action Battalion, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), police and Ansar were deployed at polling centres to ensure holding of the polls peacefully.
Brahmanbaria-1 seat fell vacant following the death of its lawmaker Awami League leader and Fisheries and Livestock Minister Sayedul Hoque.
