AL candidate wins Barisal-5 by-polls

Awami League (AL) candidate Jebunnessa Afroj unofficially won the Barisal-5 by-election held on Sunday. Wife of former lawmaker Shawkat Hossain Hiron of the constituency, Jebunnessa secured 183,629 votes while her nearest candidate Saiful Islam of BNF polled 6,138. The parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of Awami League MP Shawkat Hossain Hiron, according to a news agency.
