Awami League (AL) has yet not reached any final decision on whether it will participate in the four city corporation and nine municipal elections scheduled to be held on August 4, a senior party leader said, reports bdnews24.com.
A meeting of the AL central working committee (CWC) held Thursday has been adjourned until Friday, acting General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam told journalists.
The CWC meeting started at the party's Dhanmondi office at 11,00 am and continued until 2.15 pm, without reaching a decision, said Ashraful.
The Election Commission (EC) announced the local polls schedule on June 20, amid objections from the two major parties.
Acting president of AL Zillur Rahman said on the day the party would take a decision on participating in the local polls 'based on the situation'.
Two days later Ashraful told journalists that a final decision would be taken after discussions in the presidium and working committee meetings of the party on June 24 (Tuesday) and June 26 ( Thursday) respectively.
But the presidium meeting did not take any decision either on whether the party would participate in the local elections as detained AL leader Mohammad Nasim was being hospitalised after he had fallen seriously ill Tuesday.
