AL declares war against voters, alleges BNP

Monday, 31 March 2014

Accusing the ruling party men of capturing polling stations indiscriminately and widespread vote fraud with the help of local administration in the 5th phase of upazila elections, BNP Monday said Awami League has waged a war against the electorate. “The ruling party has massively been engaged in polling station capture, stuffing ballot boxes since yesterday night (Sunday night). They established a reign of terror in the election areas with the help of the police, Rab and local administrations,” said BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, according to a news agency. Addressing a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office on the local body polls, he also alleged that the ruling party activists intimidated and resisted voters and forced out the agents of the opposition-backed candidates from the polling stations at different parts of the country. Rizvi said Awami League is snatching people’s voting rights with the help of the Election Commission which he said is loyal to the government. “The current Election Commission has no desire to hold a free and fair election though they’re oath-bound for doing so.
