BHOLA, Apr 22 (UNB): Awami League clearly dominated the field on the last day of campaign today by the candidates for Saturday's Bhola-3 by-election when BNP claimed more than 1,000 of its supporters were wounded by the opponents in different parts of Lalmohan and Tajamuddin upazilas.
Tofail Ahmed MP, chief campaigner of Awami League candidate Nurunnabi Chowdhury Shaon, told a press conference at Lalmohan in the afternoon that BNP intended to create anarchy by bringing in outsiders on the polling day and thus made an issue.
He said BNP candidate had brought JCD activists from Bhola Sadar for his polling agents.
Refuting the allegation of hundreds of BNP activists injured by the opponents Tofail said none of them could be brought before the judicial inquiry committee. Some of them pretended to have been injured by bandaging the head.
He said all his party campaigners who came from outside would leave the constituency at the end of campaign tonight. They would not stay here on the polling day.
BNP candidate Hafizuddin Ahmed at a press conference at his Lalmohan residence in the afternoon claimed that more than 1,000 of his supporters were injured in armed attacks by Awami League cadres today.
He named more than a score including women who had fallen victim to the attackers. His supporters were kept confined in their homes with threat of dire consequences, he said.
Hafizuddin alleged that RAB declined to go to the spot for protecting the victims from terrorist attack unless they are asked by the Returning Officer.
