AL expels 8 \\\'rebels\\\'

The Awami League (AL) has expelled eight rebel candidates of the party trying to contest upcoming Upazila Parishad polls in three upazilas in Sylhet district. Of those who defied the party’s decision, four were contesting for position of chairman and four for position of vice chairman. They have been expelled for breaching party discipline, said AL Sylhet district’s deputy office secretary Joglu Chowdhury. The party decided to field single candidates in these polls. Those expellees are Golapganj Upazila chairman candidate and AL’s district chapter organising secretary Humayun Islam Kamal, AL Golapganj Upazila unit’s office secretary Akbar Ali Fakhar, Jakiganj Upazila chairman candidate and AL’s Upazila unit member Yunus Ali and Jointapur Upazila chairman candidate Kamal Ahmed. Others expelled are Jointapur vice chairman candidate and AL’s Upazila unit law affairs secretary Altaf Hossain, AL Balaganj Upazila unit’s leader Iqbal Hossain Mastan, Companyganj Upazila unit leader Shamsul Islam and AL leader Shahjahan Chowdhury, according to bdnews234.com.
