AL factional clash leaves one dead in Faridpur

FARIDPUR, Sept 04 (UNB): An Awami League activist was killed in a clash between two factions of the party over establishing supremacy in Saltha upazila on Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Sakhawat Hossain, 50.
Delwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Saltha Police Station, said supporters of Atghar union parishad chairman Shahidul Islam Shohag, joint general secretary of Saltha unit AL and a UP member Wadud Matubbar, also general secretary of Gotti union AL, locked into a clash in the afternoon over previous enmity.
The clash left around 20 people injured, the OC said adding that the clash continued for several hours.
Among them, seven critically injured were admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital where Sakhawat, a supporter of Wadud group, succumbed to his injuries.
Additional police have been deployed to avoid further untoward situation.
