CHITTAGONG, June 17 (bdnews24.com): Followers of two Awami League (AL)-backed councillor candidates at Ward 32 in Andarkilla clashed twice this morning as the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) polls began.
The first clash occurred between supporters of candidates Jaharlal Hajari and Ashish Bhattachariya near the city's Muslim Gover-nment High School polling centre at around 8:30am, shortly after the voting started.
Followers of the two councillor candidates again fought with each other near Andarkilla MES School polling centre at around 10am, witnesses said.
Mr Jaharlal alleged that followers of Mr Ashish attacked his supporters with a view to establishing their control over polling centres.
He also claimed that two supporters of his group were injured and were admitted to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
However, Mr Ashish denied the allegation.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police Kotwali Zone Assistant Commissioner Kazi Helal Uddin told the news agency that the two groups had a misunderstanding in the morning, but they reconciled later.
He said that until 11am he had visited more than 60 polling centres and claimed that no other untoward incidents had taken place.
