SINGAPORE, Aug 7 (AFP): Former US vice president Al Gore, now a globe-trotting environmental crusader, urged the business community today to be part of the solution to the global warming challenge.
Consumers around the world are increasingly becoming aware of the damage caused by global warming and a growing number of them want businesses to take action to help address the problem, he said at a business forum in Singapore.
"There is a growing demand around the world from the part of customers and shareholders and stakeholders of all kinds for business to become a positive force for needed and desired change in the world," said Gore.
"If you are looking at a global venue for your business, then there is no challenge in the global category that is anywhere nearly as important and will be as important to people as the sustainability challenge," he said in a keynote speech to the Global Brand Forum.
With consumers more aware of the global warming challenge, every company that wants to be a global brand should do their part to protect the environment, Gore said. "It is in your business interest to be a part of the solution to the climate crisis and one of the principal reasons why, is it adds to the value of your brand particularly if you have a global brand," he said.
"Right now the people all around the world are beginning to tune in to the climate crisis," said Gore, adding that consumers now want to know "what are you doing to help address the sustainability crisis."
