AL infighting in Kushtia leaves 1 dead

A sexagenarian man was killed and five other people were injured in a clash between two factions of Awami League over establishing supremacy in Mirpur upazila in Kushtia on Monday evening. The deceased was identified as Shahidul Islam, 60. Police said there had been a longstanding enmity between Malitha and Biswash groups – two factions of local unit of Awami League – over establishing their dominance in the locality. As a sequel to the enmity, the supporters of both the groups locked in an altercation at about 7pm. Both groups, equipped with lethal weapons, attacked each other, leaving Shahidul, a follower of Malitha group, dead on the spot and five people injured. Of the injured, one Israil was rushed to Kushtia Medical College Hospital where his condition was stated to be critical, according to UNB.
