MEHERPUR, May 27 (UNB): The district administration Thursday imposed section 144 at Mujibnagar Upazila Sadar after two political parties called meetings at the same time and in the same area.
Awami League (AL) and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami earlier called meetings for Thursday afternoon.
Local Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mofizur Rahman said they imposed section 144 from dawn to dusk to avert any untoward incident.
Leaders of both the party blamed each other for the postponement of their respective meetings.
Mujibnagar Upazila AL general secretary Rafiqul Islam Molla said they were not aware of Jamaat's meeting and called the party's extended meeting as per directives from the central committee.
"We called off the meeting as the administration imposed section 144," he said.
