AL leader beaten to death in Ctg; two held

CHATTOGRAM, Apr 09 (UNB): A local leader of Awami League (AL) has been beaten to death by miscreants in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram district.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Shamim, organising secretary of ward No. 9 unit of AL, which faces a ban on its activities, of Sitakunda municipality and son of Abul Mansur of Shibpur under the municipality.
Locals said Shamim had been staying at his in-laws' house in the Madhyabhaterkhil area of Muradpur union.
On Wednesday night, he was called out of the house by some people, Officer-in-Charge of Sitakunda Model Police Station Mohammad Mohinul Islam said, adding that they recovered his body at around 01:00am on Thursday after receiving a call through the national emergency service hotline 999.
They arrested two individuals on suspicion of their involvement in the murder.
