AL leader beaten to death in Lakshmipur

An Awami League (AL) leader has been beaten to death by a by a group of miscreants in Lakshmipur, reports bdnews24.com.
The dead is Nur Alam (60). He was killed at Panchpara village in Sadar upazila's Chandraganj union around 8:30 pm on Sunday, according to his son Arif Hossain.
Alam was the AL general secretary of ward no. 2. He worked at a garments store in the village.
Police have recovered Alam's body and sent it to the district Sadar hospital morgue. The family of the deceased alleged a local BNP activist named Khokon is responsible for the killing.
"My father returned home in the evening," Arif said. "Someone called my father's mobile phone and told him that people were coming to kill him. He left home and was set upon by the attackers right behind the house. They beat him with sticks."
"At one point, he fell into a pond. They dragged him up and beat him again. My father begged them to detain him instead of beating him, but they still killed him."
Arif said: "I ran out of the house and saw them beating my father. Two of the attackers grabbed me. I managed to get away from them and hid on the other side of the pond. My mother was at their feet, begging for my father's life. But none of them listened."
