AL leader chopped dead in Kushtia

Unidentified miscreants chopped to death a local Awami League (AL) leader in Mirpur upazila in Kushtia district on Monday. The dead is Syed Mamoon Gazi, 35, a leader of Chithlia union unit of the ruling party and son of late Amjad Gazi of Gopalpur village under the upazila. Shahidul Islam Shahin, officer-in-charge of Mirpur Police Station, said a gang of miscreants swooped on Syed Mamoon and chopped him with sharp weapons indiscriminately around 2:00am when he was sleeping in his house. Mamoon died on the spot. Informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Kushtia General Hospital for autopsy. Police arrested Jihad Ali, a union parishad member, for his suspected involvement with the killing, according to a news agency.
