AL leader dies in police chase

A local leader of Awami League died of cardiac arrest after being chased by police at Gobindapur village in Bijoynagar upazila here early Monday. The deceased was identified as Hasan Ullah Sardar, 65, president of ward no 1 unit of AL of Charislampur union. Locals said a team of police conducted a drive in the village on Sunday midnight to arrest the accused in a case flied in connection with the attack on madrasah teachers and students and members of Tablighi Jamaat by some miscreants in a local mosque on Thursday evening. Hasan Ullah was found dead in a crop field near Dattakhola village on Monday morning. The victim’s family members claimed that police beat Hasan to death during the drive, according to UNB.
