AL leader hacked to death in Munshiganj poll violence

A local Awami League leader died in a series of clashes among supporters of an Awami League-backed chairman candidate a renegade candidate during the 4th phase of Upazila (UZ) polls at Gazaria UZ in Munshiganj on Sunday. District Returning Officer Sarowar Morshed Chowdhury said Shamsuddin Prodhan, 65, also the chairman of Baluakandi Union Parishad (UP), was chopped during a series of clashes between supporters of ruling party-endorsed chairman hopeful Amirul Islam and rebel candidate Refaet Ullah Khan Tota near Baluakandi Dr Abdul Gaffar School and College in the afternoon. Seriously injured Prodhan was rushed to the Gazaria health complex where doctors declared him dead. Locals say Prodhan was working for Amirul Islam. He was the president of Baluakandi unit AL and also the UP chairman, police and locals said, according to a news agency.
