AL leader Haroon passes away

Prof Shamsul Huda Haroon, a member of the advisory council of Awami League (AL), died Saturday at Apollo Hospital in the city after prolonged illness. He was 75, reports UNB.
According to family sources, Prof Haroon left behind his two grandsons and a host of relations and admirers to mourn his death. His wife died seven months back.
Vice-chancellor of the private Royal University in Dhaka, Prof Haroon had been under treatment at Apollo's Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for over five weeks following a massive stroke, they said.
Haroon was also a former chairman of the department of Political Science at the University of Dhaka and an ex-member of the DU Syndicate.
His Namaj-e-Janaza will be held at the DU mosque after Isha prayers and he will be buried at Banani graveyard later Saturday night.
Acting AL president Zillur Rahman and acting general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam expressed deep shock at the death of political scientist Haroon. In a joint statement they said, "The country suffered an irreparable loss in his death."
