AL leader shot in Lakhsmipur

An Awami League (AL) leader was shot and injured by some miscreants in Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila on Saturday. The victim is Omar Faruk, 35, vice-president of Chandraganj Union unit of AL. After the incident angry protestors blocked Dhaka-Lakhsmipur highway at Chandraganj Bazar. Omar Faruk sustained several bullet wounds. He was rescued and rushed to a local hospital. Chandraganj Union AL President Md Nizam Uddin claimed that local Chhatradal leader ‘Jishan’ and his supporters were behind the attack. ‘Jishan shot Faruk in an attempt to kill him over political vendetta,’ he alleged. Faruk’s uncle Ismail Hossain said his nephew went to a tea-stall near his home at the union’s West Latifpur in the morning where Jishan and his followers shot him. Locals rescued him in critical state and rushed him to the hospital, he added, according to news agency.
