AL leader stabbed, shot at in Gazipur

A local Awami League leader has been shot and stabbed indiscriminately in Gazipur. Hafiz Uddin Hafiz, 45, religious affairs secretary of party’s Gazipur municipality unit, is now under treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), said Mahbub Naim, Sub-inspector (SI) of Joydebpur Police Station. Miscreant attacked Hafiz near his house in Gazipur’s north Chhayabithi area around 8:45pm on Monday, his brother Sagar said. They stabbed him indiscriminately and also fired on him. As Hafiz shouted for help, locals rushed to the spot and the assailants fled. He was first admitted to Bangladesh Medical College Hospital and later shifted to DMCH. Police are investigating the incident, according to bdnews24.com.
