AL leaders Kader, Kamal submit asset accounts

Detained Awami League (AL) leaders Obaidul Kader and Kamal Ahmed Majumdar Monday submitted their wealth statements to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) through prison authorities in compliance with the Commission's directive, reports UNB.
They are among the 21 corrupt suspects earlier issued summons to come up with the accounts of wealth they and their dependants possess.
In his asset account submitted to the ACC Secretary Delwar Hossain, AL Joint General Secretary Kader, now in Kashimpur jail, claimed that he and his wife possess moveable and immovable property worth over Tk 11 million (1.10 crore).
He and his wife have moveable wealth worth about Tk 7.217 million (72.17 lakh) while their immovable property is worth over Tk 3.819 million (38.19 lakh).
Among their significant possessions, Kader and his wife have one-eighth share of 4 acre 74 decimal ancestral land in Noakhali, a flat in the city's Segunbagicha area worth Tk 1.60 million (16 lakh), a three-katha plot (Tk 0.979 million) in the city's Uttara area which he claimed to have been bought with support from his relatives and friends, fixed deposits and savings certificates worth Tk 5.70 million (57 lakh), 45 tolas of gold, a Toyota car, a shotgun and a pistol.
In his statement, former AL MP Kamal Majumdar was learnt to have claimed that he has moveable wealth worth over Tk 6.38 million (63.8 lakh) while there is moveable property worth about Tk 0.862 million (8.62 lakh) in his wife's name.
Among other possessions, former AL MP Kamal Majumdar and his family have one garment factory each in Savar and Mirpur, 14 plots, five kathas of land with a flat in the city's Banani area, a house on 7.5 khathas at Gulshan in the city, 10 bank accounts in his name and the names of his wife and daughter, one car, 30 bhoris of gold, 2 shotguns and one pistol.
With these two AL leaders, the number of corrupt suspects who complied with the ACC directive rose to 20.
Of the 21 corrupt suspects, only former health minister Khandaker Mosharaf Hossain is yet to submit his wealth statement. The last date of submitting the wealth statement is today (Tuesday).
