AL leader\\\'s nephew gunned down in city

Unknown assailants gunned down Kwality Ice Cream Company’s manager Obaidul Haque, also the nephew of an Awami League leader, in the city’s Kalabagan area early Saturday. Kalabagan Police Station and local sources said some unindetified miscreants swooped on Obaidul Haque, 35, at Central Road and sprayed bullets on him, leaving him in a pool of blood. Obaidul was the nephew of Nurul Islam BSc, former Awami League MP from Chittagong-9 constituency. Police and family sources said Obaidul Haque was the manager of leading ice cream manufacturing company – Kwality Ice Cream Company, a sister concern of Sanowara Group. He was the resident of house No. 57 North Circular Road, Kalabagan, Dhanmondi, Dhaka. Kalbagan Thana Officer-in-Charge M Iqbal, quoting witnesses, said three miscreants, riding a motorcycle, shot in the head of Obaidul while he was crossing the Central Road of Dhanmondi, by a rickshaw around 12:45am on Saturday, leaving him injured critically. Being information, a team from Kalabagan Police Station rushed to the spot and rescued Obaidul, and whisked him off to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where he succumbed to his injuries around 2:30am, according to a news agency.
