AL letter to UN won't have any effect: Touhid
FE REPORT | Friday, 7 November 2025
Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain has dismissed the recent letter sent by the banned Awami League to the United Nations, saying it will have "no effect."
Speaking to reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday, the adviser was responding to a question about the letter, in which the Awami League urged the UN to withdraw its cooperation from what it described as a "non-inclusive and non-credible" election process in Bangladesh.
"The letter sent by the Awami League to the United Nations will not achieve anything," Touhid Hossain said.
According to reports, the letter was sent last Saturday to Stefan Liller, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Dhaka. In it, the banned political party called upon the UN not to assist in conducting or supporting the upcoming national election, claiming that it lacks inclusivity and public trust.
The letter was signed by former education minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel on behalf of the Awami League leadership, many of whom remain outside the country following the party's removal from power in the July Uprising in 2024.
