AL men clash with police in Cox’s Bazar, 20 injured

COX’S BAZAR: At least 20 people, including the president of local Poursasava unit of Awami League, were injured in a clash with police in front of Sadar Police Station in the town Friday evening, according to a news agency.
Officer-in-charge of Sadar Model Police Station Mahfuzur Rahman said police detained Azad, president of Cox’s Bazar ward 2 unit of Awami League, around 6pm for checking out his bike documents.
As the news spread around, local AL leaders and activists encircled the police station demanding Azad’s immediate release.
At one stage, police charged baton to disperse the unruly AL men which triggered a clash in the area. Police later fired several gunshots injuring 20 people.
The injured, including Mujibur Rahman, president of Cox’s Bazar Municipal unit of AL, were admitted to Sadar Hospital and local clinics.
