AL MPs meddling in upazila nominations

Many ruling party MPs are allegedly interfering in the party’s nominations for the upcoming upazila elections in violation of the party chief’s order that they should stay off the process. Allegations have also surfaced that the MPs are pressing to pick up their favourites overturning decisions of the grassroots members, sources close to the ruling Awami League (AL) said. The meddling is causing rifts within the rank and file of the party and leading to the rise of rebel candidates, said the party insiders speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the subject. Some central leaders also confirmed that there are problems in some areas in the selection of candidates, according to a news agency.
