AL picks up candidates in Ctg thru' ballots for nomination

CHITTAGONG, Nov 10 (UNB): Local Awami League (AL) has picked up candidates for nomination from four constituencies in the port city through direct balloting at the grassroots level for contesting the upcoming parliamentary polls.
The voting was held at Priya Community Centre in the city Sunday evening and the names of the elected candidates were formally declared at the house of former Minister Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury at Dampara around midnight.
The party also announced the names in a press release.
Out of the four constituencies, Chittagong City Corporation Mayor ABM Mohiuddin has been elected from three constituencies for nomination.
The elected candidates for Chittagaon-8 (Chandgaon-Boalkhali) constituency are Abdus Salam, Nurul Islam (BSc), AM Abul Kalam and former ward commissioner Nurul Islam.
The grassroots level party workers elected Mayor Mohiuddin, former minister MA Mannan, general secretary of city AL Enamul Haque Danu, Nurul Islam (BSc), Shamsul Alam for Chittagaon-9 (Kotwali) parliamentary seat.
Mayor ABM Mohiuddin, Dr Afsarul Amin, Khorshed Alam and ward councilor Rehana Kabir Ranu were elected for Chittagong-10 (Double Mooring).
In Chittagaon-10 (Bandar-Potenga), party members elected Mayor ABM Mohiuddin, Dr Afsarul Amin, Khorshed Alam, Hussain Bachchu, and ward councillor Rekha Alam Chowdhury.
Meanwhile, Nurul Islam (BSc) issued another press release rejecting the results saying that the process of announcement of the results was not transparent.
