AL presidium members meet at Zillur's home

Monday, 30 July 2007

Awami League (AL) presidium members gathered their wits and sat together Sunday for the first time after the party chief Sheikh Hasina' s arrest, reports UNB.
At the meeting at acting AL president Zillur Rahman's Giulshan residence, they discussed programmes for August 15 among other matters of importance in these changed times.
After a two-hour sitting, Zillur told reporters that they discussed programmes for observing the death anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15.
He expressed the hope that the caretaker government would observe the programme with state honours to the slain leader. "We will seek government permission to organise discussion and milad-mahfil on August 15," the AL leader said.
He said they are making a united move to get their detained party president freed from jail. "We are united to free our leader Sheikh Hasina and we will continue our legal battle to get her released."
AL presidium member Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Abdur Razzak, Tofail Ahmed, Motia Chowdhury and Ataur Rahman Khan Kaisar were present at the meeting-their first since Sheikh Hasina was arrested-on July 16.
