AL pushing country towards anarchy by arresting opponents: Fakhrul

FE REPORT | Tuesday, 8 August 2023

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said the ruling party is pushing the country towards a period of anarchy by arresting its opponents.
He accused the government of filing false cases against opposition leaders and activists by creating imaginary stories only to fill prisons with them.
Not even an inch at the prisons is now free because of continuous and wholesale arrests of opponents, he asserted.
The BNP leader's allegations were made in a statement issued on Sunday.
Mr Fakhrul expressed deep concern over the arrest of his party's commerce affairs secretary and
former lawmaker Salah Uddin Ahmed.
Mr Ahmed was arrested illegally, he said, adding that the denial of his bail was the outcome of the misrule of the incumbent governing party, Awami League.
There is no rule of law in the country. There is no security of public life
and property, claimed
Mr Fakhrul.
He said people were united and gearing up their ongoing movement to oust the government.
Mr Fakhrul demanded immediate release of
Mr Salah Uddin by withdrawing false cases filed against him.
