Al Quran Academy to observe 200 years of translating Holy Quran into Bengali

BARISAL, Jul 12: Al Quran Academy of London announced an elaborate programme to observe two hundred years of translating the Holy Quran into Bengali.

Hafiz Munir Uddin Ahmed, director general of Al Quran Academy London, publisher and chief executive of International Islamic Directory and Bangladesh Islamic Directory and president of Jamila Mansoor Welfare Trust, Friday noon said this during exchanging views with journalists at Barisal Reporters Unity.

Hafiz Munir said that the programmes included countrywide distribution of 0.1 million (1.0 lakh) copies of Al Quran with Bangla translation and short notes from the holy month of Ramadan.

The other programmes included arrangement of seminars, discussion meetings, competition, prize and medal distribution, fairs, exhibitions of Al Quran in divisional and important cities and towns of the country with participation of followers of different religions, sects, ideologies and colours.

A 1000 pages directory of Al Quran including writings of 100 eminent scholars with detailed information about the translations of Holy Quran into Bangla, literary and cultural activities, print- film-audio -visual works done on this Holy Book, would also be published in Bangla on this occasion, Hafiz Munir said.

An attempt already has been made to open a 'Quranic Museum' in Dhaka, the capital city of the second largest Muslim country of the world Bangladesh, to collect and preserve the Quranic manuscripts, copies, translations, explanations and notes and literature and audio-visual works, he added.
