Tuesday, 18 November 2008

Awami League (AL) president Sheikh Hasina has told the Canadian high commissioner (HC) that her party was ready to run for the parliament, an aide said Monday, reports bdnews24.com.
"Hasina told the Canadian HC that her party was ready for a free and fair election," Hasan Mahmud told journalists after meeting with the envoy, Robert McDougal, at her Sudha Sadan residence.
The former prime minister thanked Canada for providing the Election Commission (EC) with translucent ballot boxes for the upcoming elections, he said.
She also expressed hope that both the countries would work together to tackle terrorism, he added.
In the one-hour meeting from 10.00 am they talked about bilateral issues, McDougal told journalists.
On whether the state of emergency should be withdrawn before the election, the envoy only said that his country wanted a free and fair election in Bangladesh.
