Awami League (AL) starts distributing nomination forms for the parliamentary polls from tomorrow (Wednesday) while BNP will take decision on participating in the election at the four-party alliance meeting in a day or two, reports UNB.
AL has fixed November 7 as the last date for submission and withdrawal of nomination forms by party candidates.
AL acting general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam unveiled the party plan to reporters after an urgent presidium meeting at acting president Zillur Rahman's Gulshan residence.
Syed Ashraf said the willing candidates could buy the nomination forms at Tk 7,500 each from the party's central office at Bangabandhu Avenue. Awami League would contest the polls from all the 300 parliamentary constituencies, he added.
With declaration of the election schedule Sunday evening following some quick developments, AL got engrossed in all-out preparations for running the race on December 18.
The party's Central Working Committee sits at 10 am today (Tuesday) at the party's Dhanmondi office to discuss strategy of fighting the battle of ballots.
Meanwhile, Dhaka City AL and all associate organisations of the party will also sit at 1:00pm to finalise the style of reception they plan to accord to Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina on November 6 at Zia International Airport.
Ashraf in the press briefing also asked the government to lift the state of emergency ahead of the polls and defer the Upazila polls by a "rational" extent of time.
Meanwhile, BNP Secretary General Khondokar Delwar Hossain said they were yet to decide about taking part in the December 18 election but left a broad hint of joining the fracas, reports UNB.
"We are weighing the situation," Delwar told reporters at his NAM residence Monday evening. "We will take decision on participating in the election at the four-party alliance meeting in a day or two."
BNP sources told the news agency that the alliance would meet tomorrow (Wednesday) on this matter.
Delwar told a correspondent that all preparations continued, although decision about participation in the election had not been taken until now.
"We are hopeful of completing the preparation for election even if the decision is delayed a bit," he told in reply to a questioner.
He said the atmosphere for free and fair election had not yet been created. They had advanced seven demands, six of which were accepted by the government. But none of the agreed demands had been implemented.
Asked if they would go to election even if the demands were not implemented, Delwar said, "Decision will be taken at the alliance meeting."
He hastened to add that BNP was an election-oriented party. It was willing to take part but has been pressing for creating a proper atmosphere for free, fair and neutral polls.
