AL terrorising rivals: BNP

Monday, 9 May 2011

The main opposition has alleged that the ruling party supporters are terrorising their rivals ahead of the Union Parishad (UP) elections, reports bdnews24.com. "Awami Juba League musclemen are carrying out attacks on the houses of their rivals ahead of the UP polls across the country," BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir claimed Sunday. Mirza Alamgir came up with the allegations at a press brief at the party's Naya Paltan headquarters. A number of key leaders also attended the press brief. He cited two such specific incidents-one in Shariatpur and another in Gazipur. He said Awami League 'miscreants' on May 6 hacked to death Juba Dal activists 'Jamir' and Imtiaz Hossain Nayeem at Kaliganj of Gazipur. "Their bodies were thrown into the Shitalakhya River." But police were not taking cases in this regard, he claimed. Mirza Alamgir demanded arrest and trial of the killers. BNP Organising Secretary and former Kaliganj MP Fazlul Huq Milon said the bodies had wound marks. "It's mysterious that they were buried hurriedly without autopsy." He accused the local Awami League leaders of using their influence in this regard.
