AL threats, arrogance at court result of 'negligence': Rizvi
FE REPORT | Friday, 25 April 2025
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has alleged that the fallen Awami League (AL) were showing arrogance at courts and threatening police due to interim government's 'negligence'.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that the Awami League leaders are not being presented at court with a strict enough manner and due caution.
He claimed, "The leaders of Hasina's genocidal forces are far from apologising for the over 15 years of terrible misrule and, on the contrary, are threatening the court. Standing on the blood of thousands of martyrs, they are threatening to return as even bigger fascists."
He made this comment at a press conference at the BNP central office in Nayapaltan on Thursday.
Rizvi said the interim government's formation immediately after 'the long sanguinary movement' does not reflect the expectations of the country's democratic forces.
"Although there may be progress in some areas, there is a lack of preparation to build a strong framework for democracy," he said, adding that the accused in the murder of the fallen dictator publicly spoke in the court area demanding the trial of slain former president Ziaur Rahman and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Awami League leader Shahjahan Khan and his followers have threatened the interim government during their recent presence in court, Rizvi said. "They are mocking the court, threatening the police."
The arrogant behaviour of Hasina's close allies in the court despite being charged with murder is basically a deep conspiracy to prove the interim government 'ineffective', he said, adding that behaving like this is happening amid the silence of the Home Ministry and the police administration.
"Such a situation has been created because Hasina's oligarchs are in the police and the Home Ministry," he continued, expressing concern over the incident of theft, robbery, and snatching in the neighborhoods and on the streets. Pointing to Hasina's men, he said the Awami League has been spending money to create anarchy with the money they smuggled.
Rizvi claimed that the Awami League is showing the audacity to hold sudden processions in various parts of the country, including in Dhaka, with the help of some people in the administration.
He also said that the houses of BNP and its affiliated organisations are being attacked. The house of sculptor Manabendra Ghosh in Manikganj has been set on fire and reduced to ashes.
