AL to be reorganised next year, says Hanif

Sunday, 8 January 2012

Bangladesh Awami League (AL) has planned to reorganise the party in 2012 as its top brass have already sorted out an elaborate programme to complete conferences of the party and its associate bodies from union units to the central committees.
"We've decided to complete conferences of the party's all ward, union, thana and upazila units by March and all organisational district units by July this year," AL joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif told BSS.
He said AL general secretary Sayed Ashraful Islam has already sent letter to leaders of organisational district units asking them to take necessary steps for completing the conferences.
Moreover, AL has planned to organise public meetings at district headquarters across the country this year to highlight the successes of the three-year rule of the grand alliance and also to mobilise public opinion in support of the ongoing trial of crimes against humanity. Prime Minister and AL President Sheikh Hasina is expected to address these meetings as the chief guest, Hanif added.
He said the tenure of committees of most of the associate bodies expired in 2006 and it could not hold the conferences because a caretaker government was running the country.
"Centrally, AL has taken a series of organisational programmes in 2011...we've been able to complete some of these programmes...and some are now under implementation," Hanif said, adding that conferences of a number of ward and union units were held and new committees were elected.
He said AL President and PM Sheikh Hasina is sitting separately with district unit leaders to assess the party's grassroots level situation. "Our party chief has already held meeting with leaders of some district units at Ganobhaban," he added.
Talking to the news agency, AL information and research affairs secretary Afzal Hossain said AL is organising information and research workshops across the country to highlight the successes of the government and activities of the party.
