AL to continue rallies in city today

FE REPORT | Monday, 31 July 2023

The Awami League (AL) will continue its protest rallies in the capital city today (Monday) in response to the protest rally organised by the BNP.
The ruling party also held peace rallies and day-long agitation programmes countrywide, including the capital city, on Sunday to protest the conflicts and arson attacks on vehicles centring the sit-in programme organised by BNP a day ago.
Different wings of the major political party held rally and agitation programmes between 10.00 am and 5.00pm as per the central committee's decision taken a day ago when AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader made the announcement following an emergency meeting held at the party headquarters.
The party sources said Awami Jubo League Chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash attended as the chief guest a peace rally organised by the party's Dhaka city north wing at Mohakhali.
He alleged that the BNP-Jamaat clique has always been involved in the politics of killing and murder.
"You have seen that they (BNP and its allies) are revealing their genuine character as soon as the Jubo League and all the pro-liberation forces have united under the leadership of the party chief Sheikh Hasina through the peace rally," he said.
Addressing the rally as the special guest, Jubo League General Secretary Mainul Hossain Nikhil said the country is making progress under the leadership of the Prime Minister, whereas a vested quarter is now trying to disrupt the peaceful environment.
"Those who want to create chaos disrupting the peace will be strongly resisted," he said.
He said the Jubo League leaders and activists will also hold their positions in the field tomorrow, when the BNP is scheduled to organise a protest rally.
Jubo League Dhaka south city unit brought out a procession in Jatrabari area and held a 'peace rally' in Jatrabari Park.
Organising secretary of Jubo League Dr Helal Uddin Helal attended the peace rally as the chief guest.
He said the peace rally was organised to protest against BNP-Jamaat's anarchy and terrorist activities as they have begun such activities again.
The student wing of the AL, Bangladesh Chhatra League, held a rally on the foot of Raju Memorial Sculpture on the Dhaka University campus.
Meanwhile, the ruling party deferred its scheduled peace rally which was supposed to be held today (Monday) at the old trade fair venue in the city's Agargaon area.
The AL Dhaka north and south city wings are preparing to arrange the gathering.
