AL to observe historic 7th June today

Saturday, 7 June 2008

Awami League will observe the historic 7th June today (Saturday) to commemorate the 6-point movement it launched 42 years back to gain full autonomy of erstwhile East Pakistan ahead of the nation's independence, reports UNB.

The 6-point movement, marked by the supreme sacrifice of Sromik League leader Manu Mia, Shafiq and Shamsul Haq, paved the way for the Bangalees' final struggle for independence in 1971 under the leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Awami League (AL) chalked out a befitting programme to mark the day. On the occasion, national and party flags will be hoisted at all Awami League offices across the country at 5:30am.

AL central leaders will garland the portrait of Bangabandhu at the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi at 8:00am.

A discussion will also be held at the party central office at 3:30pm with AL acting president Zillur Rahman in the chair. In a press statement, Zillur Rahman described the 7th June of 1966 as a milestone in the history of struggle by the Bangalees over thousand years in the path of independence of Bangladesh.

Zillur said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had prepared the Bangalee nation for the liberation war through raising the demand of autonomy of Bangladesh based on the 6-point movement.
