AL to pay a heavy price in case of no dialogue: BNP

Friday, 3 October 2014

Hitting out at the Prime Minister for turning down their offer for talks, BNP spokesman Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir Friday warned the ruling party will have to pay a heavy price if it fails to take immediate steps for initiating a dialogue, according to a news agency.
“There’s no alternative to engaging in dialogue with BNP, no matter what AL president Sheikh Hasina is saying about it. If they don’t want to do this, they’ll have to pay a heavy price as they did in the past for their political hegemony,” he said.
Addressing a press conference, he also warned that the rejection of BNP’s proposal for talks will only push the country towards violence and chaos.
The news conference was arranged at the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office in the evening to give the party’s reaction to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s press meet on her US tour.
Justifying their repeated call for talks, Fakhrul said they still want to resolve the political deadlock in a peaceful manner.
He urged the government to sit in talks with BNP for holding a fresh and inclusive election in the interests of the country and its people.
The BNP leader alleged that the Prime Minister presented false information at the press conference as per her old habit.
“The Prime Minister’s way of talking has exposed her arrogant attitude and ignorance to the people’s hopes and aspirations,” he added.
Fakhrul alleged that the government is now planning to hang onto power with the force of guns until 2041. “That’s way they’re indulging in misdeeds and imposing misrule on people.”
