AL to send letter seeking discussion with Chief Adviser

Wednesday, 24 October 2007

Acting Awami League General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam said Tuesday they will send a letter to the chief adviser seeking discussion with him to resolve political issues, reports UNB.
"He is a wise and respectable man and we hope he will respond to it," he told reporters at his NAM apartment.
When his attention was drawn to the law adviser's remarks rejecting such dialogue, Ashraful said: "We will not sit with Barrister Mainul Hosein, we will sit with the chief adviser."
He said the proposal for discussion with the Chief Adviser had received support from politicians.
About local body elections, the Awami League leader said the ban on indoor politics in districts and upazilas should immediately be withdrawn making way for parties to participate in municipal and upazila parishad elections.
About his party's dialogue with the election commission on November 4, he said Awami League wanted to send a 15-member delegation instead of a 10-member delegation to the dialogue. "We will send a letter to the Commission seeking its approval."
Replying to a question, Ashraful said Awami League would make its suggestions approving or disapproving the EC's draft reform proposals for holding free and fair election.
He said Awami League would continue its efforts to free detained party chief Sheikh Hasina through legal and constitutional means and participate in the parliamentary elections under her leadership.
