FE REPORT | Thursday, 10 October 2024
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir alleged on Wednesday that a particular political party (Awami League) while in power carried out torture on Hindu community people.
He also said that the party's leaders and activists were also involved in grabbing properties of Hindu people.
"We (BNP) very much sympathise with the eight-point demand of the Hindu community. If BNP is voted to power, trial will be ensured for all incidents that happened against Hindus in the country," he told the media after visiting Durga Puja mandap at Dakeshwari National Temple in the capital.
"We have got an opportunity to build a new Bangladesh after defeating a devil force. There will be no conflict and communal hatred among the people of different faiths in Bangladesh," he said.
He alleged that a section of foreign media had been spreading propaganda against communal harmony in Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia contributed Tk 0.2 million (two lalh) to the party's central relief fund for flood affected people.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir handed over the money to the party's relief and rehabilitation committee chief and also standing committee member Dr AZM Jahid Hossain at the party's central office in the capital's Nayapaltan area.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam said that the money was given to the party's relief fund from the personal fund of Begum Khaleda Zia.
He also said that Begum Khaleda Zia used to stand beside the country's people during any crisis period.
He said that the then Awami League government kept away her from people during the last six years by filing false cases against her due to political reasons.
He added that Begum Khaleda Zia sought blessings from the countrymen.
